It has been over a week since the blessing of Hale Makana O Mo'ili'ili, where we celebrated the opening of our $39.7 million affordable kupuna housing project in Mo'ili'ili, Hawaii.
Nearly 150 invited guests and tenants gathered to help us celebrate and honor the completion of our project through a maile lei untying—a Hawaiian tradition.
Thank you to Kahu Kamaki Kanahele and the rest of the kupuna council, all of whom are members from the Waianae Coast Comprehensive, for coming to complete the blessing of the project.
We would like to thank Governor Josh Green, Mayor Rick Blangiardi, and Chair Tommy Waters for guest speaking and their attendance at the blessing ceremony. Their presence underscores the significance of this affordable housing development and highlights the commitment of the state and local government to address the housing needs of our kupuna.
Thank you to our partners at ‘Ikenākea Development , Moss & Associates (Construction), AHL Design, Wesley Toyota Construction Management and Engineering Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation, Honolulu City Council, University Park Apartments, Mark Development, Inc., Manuheali’i, and Philpotts Interiors.
Our partners were gifted with koa canoe paddles to resemble our union in paddling the canoe of Hale Makana O Mo’ili’ili from start to finish.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to the current tenants for helping us celebrate and for sharing their story during our celebration.
We look forward to celebrating more of our blessing ceremonies in the future as we continue to provide affordable housing opportunities across the state.
